Unsurprisingly, alocasias stole our hearts and wallets! After all, they are beautiful and add a fun touch to our houseplants.
So, how do we care for these alocasias? From my experience, alocasias are hardy and thrive in neglect. They are easy to propagate via corm or rhizomes and are fast growers with regular fertilization.
I grow my alocasias using my substrate mix of coco coir, husks, and perlite. Buying pre-mixed is more expensive, so I recommend you learn how to mix your substrate.
Where can you get affordable coco coir and coco husks?
Always check your local hydroponic store for coco coir and coco husk supplies. I get the big bags locally, which saves me on shipping and allows me to support local businesses.
Our alocasias thrive in an environment with 60% humidity and temperatures ranging from 60 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit. If you can provide higher humidity, your plant will thrive even more. Understanding when to water them is crucial, as they are susceptible to root rot in soggy conditions. This underscores the importance of chunky and airy substrate.
